Bringing Indigenous languages into student’s early learning helps broaden their understanding and appreciation of the cultural diversity across Indigenous Australia, whilst also providing them with a tangible connection to the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander community in their local area.
At Dudley Park Primary School, students have the opportunity to learn Noongar language and culture.
Through participation and engagement in learning of Noongar language and culture, students improve:
- Understandings of other cultures and recognise the similarities and differences of their own social and cultural practices.
- It provides students with an opportunity to learn about the country that they’re on and its first peoples.
- Literacy skills through comparing the similarities and differences between English and other languages.
